Text: Deut. 33:27
Title: "Jesus Christ: the God Above, Beneath and Before"
Intro: Moses stands at the foot of Mt. Nebo. As God directed Moses
steps in life, so God now directs his last steps before death. From
Mt. Nebo, God will allow His servant to glaze upon the promised
land; yet because of Mose's disobedience God will not allow him to
enter therein. Instead, Moses will move from a glimpse of the
promised land to the glory of Paradise.
Before ascending Mt. Nebo, Moses delivers his last word of
consolation to the children of Israel. In this, Moses typifies our
Lord Jesus Christ, "the Prophet like unto Moses," Who said, "I will
not leave you Comfortless, I will come to you." As our Lord spoke
eternal words of encouragement to His disciples before that great
day of Sacrifice, so Moses "blessed the children of Israel before
his death."
Moses begins by reminding them that their only source of blessing is
the eternal God. Each of us needs a continual reminder of this same
thing. He then proclaims the individual blessing of God on each
tribe. We too, need to know the blessing that God has for each of
us! Moses then completes his last word and testimony in a crescendo
of praise to the Lord for all His many benefits. If you will
consider your source of blessings, and the blessings freely poured
out for your benefit, you too will "Praise the Lord"!!
Then, with his last recorded word, Moses explodes in a exclamation
of praise of His God and our Lord Jesus Christ as "The God Above and
Beneath."
